What Does It Mean to Be Strong in Our Weakness?
What Does It Mean to Be Strong in Our Weakness?
Strength Through Surrender
"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."
"Don't be afraid; just believe."
When we are empty—fully surrendered—that's when Jesus can show His strength. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians that God's grace is more than enough and that His power is actually made perfect in our weakness.
Mark 5 tells the story of Jairus, a respected leader who dropped his pride and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading for his daughter's life. Even after hearing she had died, he still followed Jesus. Surrounded by an atmosphere of doubt, Jesus told him, "Don't be afraid; just believe."
Faith begins when we lay down pride, fear, and our need for control. Jesus reaches out to those who are broken, not to shame them, but to restore them—turning empty vessels into living examples of His power.
Strength isn't about having it all together; it's about trusting the One who holds it all together. True power is found in surrender.
- Family Reflection: Talk about a moment when you felt weak or unsure. How did God meet you there?
- Trust Exercise: Have each person name one area where they need to let go and trust God more fully.
- Memory Verse: Commit 2 Corinthians 12:9 to memory this week as a reminder of Christ's power in your weakness.
Jesus, thank You that Your grace is more than enough. Help us to see that we don't need to be strong on our own. In our emptiness and weakness, You show up with power and love. Help us to trust You fully and believe, even when things look impossible. In Your name, Amen.
